Horses
For sedation:
- 0.6–1.0 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intravenously (equivalent to 3–5 ml per 100 kg b.w.).
For anesthesia induction in combination with ketamine:
- 1 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intravenously (equivalent to 5 ml per 100 kg b.w.), followed by 2 mg ketamine/kg b.w. intravenously after deep sedation onset.
Dogs
For sedation:
- 1 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intravenously (equivalent to 0.5 ml per 10 kg b.w.).
- 1 to 3 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intramuscularly (equivalent to 0.5–1.5 ml per 10 kg b.w.).
For anesthesia induction with ketamine:
- 2 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intramuscularly (1 ml per 10 kg b.w.) and 610 mg ketamine/kg b.w. intramuscularly.
Cats
For sedation:
- 2 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intramuscularly (0.1 ml/kg b.w.).
- 2 to 4 mg xylazine/kg b.w. subcutaneously (0.1–0.2 ml/kg b.w.).
For anesthesia induction in combination with ketamine:
2 mg xylazine/kg b.w. intramuscularly (0.1 ml/kg b.w.) and 5–15 mg ketamine/kg b.w. intramuscularly.
